Top Ten Films of 2013
2013 was somewhat of a disappointment for us as we didn’t award any film a 10/10 (nor a 9/10 for that matter). Originally, we struggled to even compile a selection of ten films that we felt deserved to be on a year-end awards list. Perhaps we’re becoming a little pessimistic, but none of the bigger or more heavily advertised films made much of an impact: “Her” couldn’t top “Lars and the Real Girl,” “American Hustle” didn’t outsmart “Argo,” “12 Years a Slave” didn’t even possess the emotional resonance of something as outlandish as “Django Unchained,” “Lone Survivor” lacked the scope of “Zero Dark Thirty,” and “Out of the Furnace” dispensed with cathartic revenge fantasy action to the point that it couldn’t hold a candle to “Dead Man Down,” a discarded movie widely regarded as below average. Having said that, we still greatly enjoy watching an abundance of forgettable movies in the hopes of finding something grand.
