Two Lovers (available on DVD June 30th, 2009)

Two Lovers DVD Cover Art

James Gray's "Two Lovers" is being hailed as "different" and even "one of the best films of 2009" but I believe it's only a matter of Gray choosing to be slightly more perceptive than his Hollywood counterparts. He doesn't really try to force anything, and sometimes this works and sometimes otherwise. It's quite an oddly-paced film, but occasionally this is what we all need.

Joaquin Phoenix, who has supposedly quit acting completely, tries his best to anchor it all as heartbroken Leonard, who’s attempted to commit suicide after his fiancée leaves him. The same day, he meets a new woman, Sandra (Vinessa Shaw), who is the daughter of the man who's going to take over the family dry cleaning business. His parents (Isabella Rossellini and Moni Moshonov), charmed by Sandra's affection and tenderness towards Leonard, push for their son to get involved with her. He likes her, but he's more in love with his next door neighbor Michelle (Gwyneth Paltrow), who's very unstable and also involved with her law associate (Elias Koteas). Michelle relies on him to take care of her, since she needs someone to latch onto. Leonard is split because of the two lovers' ideas of the relationships. The movie doesn't get in depth on Leonard's parents, because this may be somewhat of a factor. Gray handles it all well, but ultimately, the film's overall nature is forgettable... In Van Wilder: Freshman Year, a young Van follows in his wealthy father’s footsteps by enrolling at prestigious Coolidge College. Much to the easygoing slacker’s dismay, however, Coolidge is hardly the party school he envisioned. Instead, it’s a strict institution led by an uptight dean—and to make matters worse, all the girls have taken a vow of chastity! Determined to rectify this intolerable situation, the civic-minded Van launches a personal crusade to free his school from the shackles of sexual oppression and party dysfunction. No cheerleader will be left untouched and no keg will be left untapped in this hilarious prequel.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer Blu-ray (available on July 14th, 2009)

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that reaches its full horror potential on Blu-ray™ -- the silences are creepier, the screams louder and the murders gorier, all enhancing the frightfully fun experience. It's hard to forget a man who refuses to die.

Blu-ray Disc Special Features:
• The Making of Featurette
• “How Do I Deal” Music Video – Jennifer Love Hewitt

[REC] DVD Cover Art

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will release [REC], the international smash hit that inspired the Screen Gems film Quarantine, on DVD July 14, 2009. Winner of multiple awards including two Goya Awards (Spain’s Movie Awards) including Best New Actress for Manuela Velasco (Law of Desire), [REC] includes “REC: Making-Of” Featurette and both English and original Spanish language versions of the film.

From Executive Producers who brought you Quarantine, comes the movie that inspired the terror. A beautiful TV reporter and her cameraman are doing a routine interview at a local fire station when an emergency call comes in. Accompanying the firefighters to a nearby apartment, the news team begins recording the bloodcurdling screams coming from inside an elderly woman's unit. After authorities seal off the building to contain the threat, the news crew, firefighters and residents are trapped to face a lethal terror inside. With the camera running, nothing may survive but the film itself.

[REC] was executive produced by Julio Fernández and Carlos Fernández, and directed by Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, who are currently directing the film’s sequel, [REC] 2. The film was written by Jaume Balagueró, Luis A. Berdejo and Paco Plaza.
